RVVP 2×6.0 mm² — Flexible Shielded Feeder Cable — Specification
1. Overview & Ratings
RVVP 2×6.0 is the largest 2-core RVVP size — a shielded feeder cable rated 450/750 V. It uses pure annealed bare copper (not tinned) for both the conductor and braid, maximizing conductivity. Two 6.0 mm² cores carry 37–48 A for main power feeds on large machines, transformer secondary runs, and large motor supplies. The heavy-duty braid suppresses EMI/RFI so power runs stay clean. OD ≈ 13.5 mm, ≈ 185 kg/km (est.). Max conductor temperature 70 °C, -15 to +70 °C. Intended for dry indoor feeder applications; for damp or outdoor duty, specify tinned copper variant. Not for mains distribution or direct burial.
2. Construction Stack (Inner → Outer, expanded)
| Layer / Feature | Build | Function |
|---|---|---|
| Conductor (×2) | Pure annealed Cu, Class 5, 84×0.30 mm per core | R ≤ 3.08 Ω/km, feeder-grade current |
| Insulation | PVC ≈ 1.0 mm per core | 450/750 V dielectric, colour-coded |
| Inner sheath | PVC + filler ≈ 0.8 mm | Round bedding, braid substrate |
| Braid shield | Pure Cu, heavy-duty, ≈ 85% coverage | Low transfer impedance, high fault capacity |
| Outer jacket | PVC ≈ 1.4 mm | Extra-heavy-duty oil/abrasion protection |
3. Electrical Characteristics
DC resistance ≤ 3.08 Ω/km at 20 °C per GB/T 3956 — roughly 33% lower than the 4.0 mm² variant, cutting voltage drop to ≈ 0.31 V per 100 m at 10 A. Rated voltage 450/750 V. Estimated ampacity ≈ 37–48 A in free air at 30 °C. Insulation resistance ≥ 25 MΩ·km. Routine AC withstand test at 2500 V for 5 minutes. Typical capacitance ≈ 210 pF/m at 1 kHz. The pure copper braid is sized for heavy earth-fault energy expected on feeder circuits. Suitable for main power feeds and large motor supplies up to 50 m.

4. Thermal & Flame Behaviour
Operating range -15 to +70 °C continuous. Short-circuit withstand up to 160 °C for ≤ 5 seconds. PVC insulation and jacket are flame-retardant per IEC 60332-1. The cable is halogen-containing (PVC), emitting HCl gas on burning — avoid in enclosed switchrooms. For public or enclosed spaces, specify LSZH alternatives. The extra-heavy 1.4 mm Type ST jacket provides robust oil and abrasion resistance for heavy machinery, presses and industrial plants. Note: bare pure copper oxidizes in humid environments — install in dry indoor or conduit-protected locations. UV resistance is limited.

5. Installation Practice & Handling
Minimum bending radius ≥ 6×OD ≈ 81 mm for fixed installation; 12×OD ≈ 162 mm for drag-chain applications. At 13.5 mm OD and 185 kg/km, this is the bulkiest and heaviest RVVP 2-core variant — plan cable trays, lifting and bending allowance carefully. Terminate the braid shield to earth via a robust shield gland or drain wire, as feeder circuits carry higher fault energy. Use heavy-duty ferrules on the 84-strand conductor. Route at least 300 mm away from motor and VFD power cables. After installation, verify insulation resistance, shield continuity and polarity before energizing.

6. Typical Service Applications
Main power feeds from distribution panel to large machines and production lines, transformer secondary runs to load centers, large motor supply wiring between drive and motor, power to heavy solenoid valves and actuators in industrial plants, and interconnection between main switchgear and field distribution. The 6.0 mm² cross-section is the upper limit of RVVP 2-core size — the sweet spot for runs up to 30–50 m where current demand is 30–48 A and EMI protection is required. Not for: mains AC distribution, high-speed fieldbus, direct burial, outdoor UV exposure, or damp environments.

7. Testing & Quality Assurance Regime
Routine tests (100% production): DC resistance, AC voltage withstand (2500 V/5 min), insulation resistance, conductor construction, wall thickness, dimensional check, print legibility, mass per length, visual appearance, and packing. Type tests (per batch): shield coverage plus heavy fault-current withstand, heat aging (100 °C/7 days), cold bend (-15 °C), jacket tensile, flame retardancy, and shielding effectiveness. Every heavy drum ships with mill test certificate, ROHS and REACH declarations. The heavy fault-current test is standard for feeder-grade RVVP.

| 1. Product Identity & Ratings | |||
| RVVP 2×6.0 is the largest 2-core RVVP size — a shielded feeder cable rated 450/750 V. It uses pure annealed copper (not tinned) for both the conductor and braid, maximizing conductivity. Two 6.0 mm² cores carry 37–48 A for main power feeds on large machines, transformer secondary runs, and large motor supplies. The heavy-duty braid suppresses EMI/RFI so power runs stay clean. OD ≈ 13.5 mm, ≈ 185 kg/km. Max 70 °C, -15 to +70 °C range. For dry indoor use; specify tinned variant for damp/outdoor. | |||
| 2. Pure Copper Conductor (×2) | |||
| Each 6.0 mm² core is stranded from 84 pure annealed copper wires of 0.30 mm in a Class 5 compacted lay-up. Pure copper (bare, not tinned) delivers the highest conductivity: DC resistance ≤ 3.08 Ω/km at 20 °C, roughly 33% lower than 4.0 mm². The 84-wire stranding keeps the cable flexible despite the large cross-section. Note: bare copper is intended for dry indoor environments where corrosion is not a concern; for outdoor or damp duty, specify tinned copper variant. | |||
| 3. PVC Insulation | |||
| Each conductor receives a 1.0 mm Type SP PVC extrusion, matching the 4.0 mm² wall thickness but over a larger core. The insulation is colour-coded for polarity and circuit identification. Insulation resistance ≥ 25 MΩ·km. The wall provides the dielectric margin required for 450/750 V feeder service and carries the larger conductor's thermal load. | |||
| 4. Inner Sheath + Braid Shield | |||
| The two insulated cores are laid up with polyester fillers to keep the cable round, then bedded with a 0.8 mm PVC inner sheath. Over this, a pure copper braid is woven at ≈ 85% coverage. The braid is sized for higher earth-fault energy expected on feeder circuits, where fault currents are larger. Pure copper braid has low transfer impedance, giving strong EMI shielding at higher frequencies. | |||
| 5. Outer PVC Jacket | |||
| A 1.4 mm Type ST PVC jacket completes the build — the thickest in the RVVP 2-core range — yielding an OD of ≈ 13.5 mm. The extra-heavy jacket provides robust oil and abrasion resistance for heavy machinery, presses and industrial plants. Flame-retardant per IEC 60332-1. Printed markings show product type, cross-section, voltage, metre mark and manufacturer. For drag-chain duty, specify RVVSP. |
8. Factory Advantages
Pure annealed copper conductor at 84×0.30 mm stranding delivers maximum conductivity (3.08 Ω/km) with Class 5 flexibility. 1.0 mm insulation and extra-heavy 1.4 mm jacket match the 450/750 V feeder rating. Pure copper braid at ≈ 85% coverage with high fault-energy capacity. Low DC resistance minimizes voltage drop on long feeder runs. Extra-heavy-duty oil-resistant Type ST jacket for heavy machinery and plant duty. 100% routine electrical QA on every drum. Cut-to-length on heavy wooden drums. Full traceability with MTC and certification support for industrial plant and machinery tenders.
9. Packaging, Storage & Logistics
Cut to customer-specified length on export-grade heavy-duty wooden drums, with both ends heat-sealed. At ≈ 185 kg/km, heavy drums are essential — a 500 m reel weighs nearly 93 kg, requiring forklift handling. Drums wrapped in waterproof film and corrugated cardboard, labelled with product type, core count, cross-section, length, weight, production date and drum number. Standard lengths 100/200/500/1000 m. Store dry indoor, -10 to +40 °C, below 75% RH, away from direct sunlight and chemical solvents. FOB Shanghai/Nanjing/Qingdao; CIF and DAP available. Sample lead time 5–7 days; bulk production 15–25 days.

10. Procurement Specification
State cable designation "RVVP 2×6.0 pure copper", required length per heavy drum, and core colour preference. Request the routine AC withstand test record (2500 V), shield coverage certificate, and heavy fault-current test result. Note that this is a pure copper (bare) feeder variant for dry indoor use — for damp or outdoor applications, specify the tinned copper variant. Specify any regional certification requirements (UL 2464, CE, etc.) at order time. Payment: 30% T/T deposit, balance against B/L copy. Documents: MTC, ROHS/REACH, COO, commercial invoice, packing list. For drag-chain duty, specify RVVSP variant.
11. Cable Industry FAQ
Q1: Why choose 6.0 mm² over 4.0 mm²? Lower DC resistance (3.08 vs 4.61 Ω/km), higher ampacity (37–48 A vs 28–35 A), and heavy-duty construction for feeder-level power distribution.
Q2: Is this the largest RVVP size? Yes — 6.0 mm² is the upper limit of the standard RVVP 2-core range. For larger cross-sections, switch to RVV or power cable.
Q3: Can it supply large motors? Yes — it is designed for main motor feeds and heavy-duty auxiliary power up to 48 A at 450/750 V.
Q4: What is the voltage drop at 10 A? ≈ 0.31 V per 100 m — roughly one-third the drop of 4.0 mm², ideal for long feeder runs.
Q5: Why is the jacket so thick (1.4 mm)? The extra-heavy Type ST jacket provides robust mechanical, oil and abrasion protection for heavy machinery and industrial plant duty.
Q6: How do you handle the weight? At 185 kg/km, heavy wooden drums are required — plan forklift or mechanical handling on site.
Q7: Is it suitable for drag chains? Not as standard — specify RVVSP (flexible braid) variant for continuous-flex applications.
Q8: What is the bending radius? ≥ 6×OD ≈ 81 mm for fixed; 12× for moving applications.
Q9: What is the temperature range? -15 to +70 °C continuous.
Q10: What proof ships? Routine AC test record (2500 V) + shield coverage + heavy fault-current test + MTC.
Q11: When should I step up from 6.0 to a power cable? For cross-sections above 6.0 mm², higher voltage, or mains distribution, switch to RVV, YJV or other power cable types.
