|
Flexibility |
Class 1 solid = stiff, for fixed wiring only; Class 2 stranded = slightly easier to dress, still not flexible like RVV |

5. Product Performance Summary
BVVB 2×1.5 is the classic Chinese flat sheathed wire for surface-mounted fixed wiring. Its value proposition versus BV (single-core naked) and BVV (round sheathed):
-
Double protection in one piece — each core has PVC insulation + the whole assembly has a PVC sheath → resists moisture, dust, and minor mechanical knocks better than BV, without the bulky round profile of BVV.
-
Flat shape hugs walls — 4.6×7.3 mm cross-section sits flush under skirting boards, along tile edges, behind trunking lids; far neater than round BVV or conduit-run BV for retro-fit / visible runs.
-
1.5 mm² is the lighting-and-small-socket sweet spot — 18 A free-air rating covers 220 V lighting circuits, switch drops, 1 A–10 A socket branches, appliance cords back to a fused spur.
-
Solid core = stable termination — Class 1 1/1.38 mm conductor clamps cleanly under screw terminals in switches, choc-boxes, and distribution boards; no strand splay if ferrule omitted (though ferrule still recommended).
-
Cost-effective — cheaper than armoured or LSZH cables; the default choice for non-emergency indoor exposed wiring.
Trade-off: not for direct burial (PVC sheath not rodent/soil rated), not for moving equipment (solid core fatigues), not fire-survival (standard PVC), not UV-stable for permanent outdoor sun exposure without conduit.
6. Application Scope
Primary uses
-
Residential surface wiring: living-room/bedroom lighting switches, ceiling rose feeds, skirting-board socket spurs
-
Retrofit / renovation where chasing walls is unwanted — run flat along cornices, door frames, under carpets (protected)
-
Small commercial fit-out lighting circuits, signage feeds, shop display lighting
-
Household appliances fixed connection: extractor hood, water heater switch drop, wall-mounted AC indoor unit power (low-current branch, not the 16 A socket itself)
-
Instrumentation, thermostats, doorbell transformers, CCTV camera 220 V feeds (low current)
-
Temporary site offices, exhibition booths, market stalls (indoor/under-canopy)
Typical projects: apartments & villas · office partitions · retail shops · school classrooms · hotel guest-room wiring · old-building rewire where conduit is impractical.
Not suitable for: direct burial · outdoor sun-exposed runs > few months · emergency/fire-alarm circuits (use NH-BV or WDZ-BYJ) · flexible appliance cords (use RVV) · 16 A+ socket radial circuits on long runs (use 2.5 mm² BV/BVVB) · 450/750 V industrial feeds (BV 450/750 is fine, but BVVB 2×1.5 is 300/500 V only).

7. Installation Notes (2×1.5 flat)
|
Item |
Practice |
|---|---|
|
Mounting |
Clip to wall every 300–400 mm (plastic saddle/clip matching flat profile); not zip-tie on round surfaces |
|
Bending |
4× short-axis min (~18 mm); avoid creasing the flat edge — use gentle sweeps |
|
Termination |
Strip insulation 8–10 mm; solid core into screw terminal directly, or bootlace ferrule (DIN 46228 1.5 mm²) for panel use |
|
Junction |
Use choc-box or PVC junction box; never twist-and-tape in open air |
|
Conduit? |
Discouraged — flat shape scrapes sheath in round conduit; if conduit mandatory, use round BVV or single BV in conduit instead |
|
Pre-energizing |
500 V DC megger L-L, L-outer-sheath ≥ 1 MΩ; visual check sheath not nicked at clips |
|
Low temp |
Below 0 °C, warm cable before bending to avoid sheath cracking |
