Product Description
DC (PV) Solar Cable H1Z2Z2-K 4.0 mm² Single Core Tinned Copper XLPE/XLPO Insulated
H1Z2Z2-K 1×4.0 mm² Photovoltaic (PV) DC Solar Cable.
H = Harmonised EU designation · 1Z2Z2 = halogen-free (HFFR) insulation + halogen-free (HFFR) sheath, both cross-linked · K = flexible Class 5 conductor · 1×4.0 mm² = single-core, 4 mm².
This is the current-generation replacement of legacy PV1-F (2 PfG 1169), built for 1500 V DC photovoltaic systems.

-
Continuous conductor temp.: 90 °C (normal service)
-
Peak conductor temp.: 120 °C for up to 20,000 h cumulative (Arrhenius life model) → design life 30–40 years outdoor.
-
Ambient range (installation & service): −40 °C to +90 °C; lay-in min. −25 °C to 0 °C depending on compound.
-
Min. bending radius: 4× OD fixed (~22 mm), 5× OD flexing (~28 mm).

4.Mechanical, Chemical & Environmental Performance
-
Halogen-free: IEC 60754-1 (halogen acid gas ≈ 0; pH > 4.3, conductivity < 10 µS/mm)
-
Low smoke: IEC 61034-2, light transmittance > 60%
-
Flame retardant: IEC 60332-1-2 (single cable, self-extinguishing)
-
UV resistance: EN 50289-4-17 Method A, 720 h+ UV, plus maker 4000 h prestige tests — suitable for permanent outdoor exposure without conduit.
-
Ozone resistance: EN 50396 (cable intact after ozone chamber)
-
Water resistance: AD8 per EN 50525-2-21 Annex E — permanent immersion / direct burial acceptable without extra jacket.
-
Hydrolysis / salt mist / ammonia: pass EN 60068-2-78 damp heat, HD 60364-5-52 condition AH3
-
Tensile / bending fatigue: 100,000 reverse-bend cycles (Nexans class test), flexible Class 5 survives panel tracking movement and installer pulls
-
MC4 compatibility: 4 mm² mates with standard MC4 (4–6 mm² crimp) connectors.
-
Anticipated service life: ≥ 25 years (TÜV), 30–40 years typical per Arrhenius extrapolation.

5.Product Performance Summary
H1Z2Z2-K 1×4 mm² is the default DC string cable for modern 1500 V photovoltaic systems. Its three decisive advantages over legacy PV1-F or general-purpose H07 cables:
-
1500 V DC rating with 1800 V margin — thicker XLPO wall suppresses partial discharge in 1500 V strings; PV1-F (1000 V DC) is not allowed in 1500 V systems.
-
Double cross-linked HFFR (insulation + sheath) — electron-beam cured, does not melt or flow at 120 °C, zero halogen, low smoke, AD8 submersible. Survives roof-top thermal cycling, desert UV, coastal salt fog, and floating-PV humidity in one product.
-
Class 5 tinned copper — tin coating prevents copper oxidation/corrosion at MC4 contacts over 25+ years; fine stranding tolerates panel micro-movement and tight tray dressing.
Trade-off: stiffer than rubber cord, not intended for continuous flexing like a drag-chain cable; 4 mm² is best for short-to-medium string runs (≤ ~30 m one-way at 15 A) — for longer runs or higher Isc, move to 6 mm².
6. Application Scope
-
PV module → combiner box / string inverter DC interconnect (the primary use)
-
Rooftop residential, commercial, and industrial PV (≤ 1500 V DC string voltage)
-
Utility-scale ground-mounted solar farms, single-axis tracker wiring
-
Floating photovoltaic (FPV) — AD8 water resistance is critical here
-
Battery energy storage (BESS) DC side, charge controller to battery bank (low-voltage 12–48 V too, with correct fusing)
-
Solar pump, solar street-light, off-grid cabin DC wiring
-
MC4-terminated panel harnesses and extension leads
Not suitable for: AC mains distribution (>1 kV AC), conduit-only building wiring inside dwellings (use H07Z-K etc.), continuous flexing machinery, direct connection to grid without inverter.

7.Installation Notes (1×4 mm²)
|
Item |
Practice |
|---|---|
|
Bending |
4×OD fixed (~22 mm), 5×OD flexing (~28 mm) |
|
Supports |
Clip to rail or tray every ≤ 400 mm horizontal; avoid sharp edge contact (use edge guards) |
|
Termination |
Strip ~8–10 mm, use MC4 crimp contact 4–6 mm², never tin-and-screw on PV DC |
|
Earthing |
PV DC is ungrounded/floating; equipotential bonding done at inverter/combiner, not on cable sheath |
|
Pulling |
By conductor or factory MC4; do not pull by sheath alone on long runs |
|
Temperature |
Lay ≥ 0 °C (or use cold-flex compound); service −40 to +90 °C ambient |
|
Direct burial |
Allowed (AD8); for rodent zones add sand bed or warning tape, no armour needed |
|
Pre-commissioning |
1000 V DC megger L-(shield/nil) ≥ 100 MΩ; visual check of MC4 seal |
